A spiritual approach to productivity

Perseverance is different from persistence, but neither can live without the other.

Humans’ constant search for something better or more is not a secret. As Ken Keyes quotes in his book Handbook to Higher Consciousness, “most of us, go by through life not knowing what we want, but feeling dammed sure this isn’t it.”

This feeling keeps us in constant pursuit mode. However, many of us think we are not persistent enough, justifying a plethora of our failures and unachieved goals with that belief. But is persistence the problem?

By definition, persistence is action-based and involves doing something on a regular basis, not giving up. Perseverance is usually used as a synonym. However, as in many other cases, they complement but cannot replace each other.

If we go back to Oxford’s dictionary, the official definition of perseverance is “the quality of continuing to try to achieve a particular aim despite difficulties.” In other words, it’s something that is part of a person’s character, more like a state within us that keeps us going, and provides what I call a sticking substance to a goal, so it remains active throughout time. Perseverance is there to keep us on track, igniting movement. That action trigger is what connects perseverance with persistence.

We can persevere, but without persistence, we hardly accomplish anything. The same goes the other way around. We can persist in doing something, but in the long run, the fuel will run out.

Without perseverance, the enthusiasm that persistence requires to keep things moving will dwindle, the energy will fade, and the focus will be lost. We might end up dropping out after the first attempts in which we persisted so hard, we probably will forget about the entire line of action, or even worse, we will burn ourselves out because of doing so much at the body level.

Successful results will come to life when we understand that our inner selves play a heavy role in making things happen, and our spiritual side is deeply connected to our productive/human body self.

Mind, body, and spirit work together in everything. Every time we try to do something using only one or two, we tend to reach pleasure moments, but not wholehearted fulfillment and happiness.

PRODUCTIVITY CANNOT BE REACHED WITHOUT THE TRIAD.

Despite the fact that there isn’t a unique formula for reaching or getting whatever we want. Everything is achievable when we recognize the interconnectedness of all. We need to consider how holistic we are and embrace whatever we do as a whole.

Of the many hacks to maximize productivity available—the 2-minute rule, Pomodoro’s Technique, delegation, saying no, etc. The best productivity hack I have found is to get the whole team, your mind, body and soul on board and in line to achieve a goal.

At first glance, that might seem too metaphysical, but it couldn’t be farther away from its very practical approach. Let me explain.

Everything starts with that yearning for something. Something you want to live or want to stop experiencing. Either way, your soul is the one inspiring you. The acknowledgement and attention given to the desire that your spirit is bringing forward is the first component of building a strong and stable structure for the fulfillment of your desire.

Next is your mind. Our brain will question whether we can, are worthy or capable of achieving what our heart is calling us to do. Now, your mind has to jump in to answer the question by laying out a rational step-by-step process to reach what other humans have done before. The teamwork of your mind (persevere/mind) and your spirit (spirit/soul’s desire) will make you believe in your goal. Your objective will become a distinctive attribute, a feature of you.

Lastly, action is needed. Notice that it is only at this last step that the exterior, your body, enters the equation. This third component completes a solid structure, so your actions are supported by two other sides that will be ready to help you bear the weight, the tension, load, stress, distrust, excuses, etc.

Your mind and soul aligned will help you distribute the loads that life will present you, and that at many points might take you off your path of reaching your goal. Your mind and soul will squeeze, compress, and stretch to make sure to pull you back to your journey as soon as the multiple forces are neutralized.

The manifestation process tends to deplete us and cause frustration because of a lack of mind-soul-body alignment.

When we don’t see results or find ourselves back to square one, we soon go down a rabbit hole that can go from blaming ourselves for our lack of will, to questioning the law of attraction, our manifestation capacity and more.

However, our adventure to a better version of us is what will remind you that whatever you desire, imagine, or want to manifest will be available to be experienced only when you embrace it with all the aspects of you.  So, give this approach a try.

Despite the well-known lightness and ethereal characteristics of spirituality, a spiritual approach to productivity is a very bodily, practical and effective way to get what we want to experience on a human level.
